This town or once ruling city of the Xochicalcan. A brief history that is told on site: after the fall of the Teotihuacan this was one of the leading urban centers on the Central High Plains. Xochicalco epitomizes a certain era in Mesoamerican history: the Epiclassic Period (700-900A.D.), characterized by a small militarism, migrations, political and economical instability, fortified cities, the worship of warriors of war gods like Quetzalcoatl, and a mixtures of cultures in one place. In short, a decided change from former patterns.
